Who We Are

Skiff Sailing Association

The Skiff Sailing Association (SSA) functions as an expert body for sailing. Founded and run by volunteers who are committed to the promotion of the sport and to excellence as a way of life.

Key Office Bearers

    •    President — Ravinder Sandhu

    •    Vice President — Himanshu Chaurasia

    •    Vice President — Abhishek Lanjekar

    •    Hon. Programme Director — Amish Ved

All office bearers serve in a voluntary, honorary capacity as office bearers.

Established as a Section 8 non-profit, we work to broaden access to the sport and guide India’s youth toward international success aligned with the National Federation’s goals. We bring industry best practices and innovative training curriculum to bring about a change towards excellence at all levels in Indian sailing.

Guided by our motto — “A Wave in the Right Direction” — we are building a strong and inclusive sailing ecosystem that nurtures sailors, coaches, and communities.

What We Do

    •    Develop structured qualification packs and competency rubrics for sailors and coaches

    •    Conduct training camps, regattas, and certification programs nationwide

    •    Partner with clubs, districts, and state sailing associations to expand opportunities

    •    Mentor young sailors with international exposure and competition pathways

    •    Incorporate India’s rich maritime heritage into modern sailing programs

Our Values

    •    Excellence: A way of life on and off the water

    •    Integrity & Respect: For sailors, the sea, and the community

    •    Inclusivity: Making sailing accessible to every child and family

    •    Commitment: To holistic development, not just results

We are also recognized as the National Class Association of the O’pen Skiff in India affiliated with the International O’pen Skiff Class under World Sailing and aligned with the Yachting Association of India framework.

The Association was set up to address a specific gap in Indian sailing — the absence of a structured pathway from a child’s first day on the water through to national and international competition. Our work spans Competency-Based Training and Assessment, Learn-to-Sail delivery, instructor development, and race-training pathways. Every centre we engage with is designed to eventually run on locally-trained instructors rather than remain dependent on external coaches.

Program Leadership

The training methodology is designed by Amish Ved, our Hon. Program Director — a former Sailing World Champion who has also coached athletes to two Asian Games medals. On-ground delivery is led by Umesh Naiksattam, our Head Coach.
